When Mountains Move
By Julie Cantrell
Welcome again to the Sunday Scoop. It is sunny and hot here in Ohio. I hope that you have a great holiday tomorrow!! I hope everyone gets a chance to relax and do something that they enjoy. Today’s book is a current fiction choice.
The featured book today is When Mountains Move. This is the Sequel of Into the Free. I remember reading Into the Free last year. It was a really good book! I must have really liked it I gave it 5 out of 5 stars!! There are onIy a few books that I award such high honors. Into the Free is the winner of two Christie Awards. It won BOOK of the Year and Debut Novel of the Year. It was also on the New York Times Best Seller List last year. I was excited to receive her second book from NetGalley for free in exchange for an honest review. It was just published on Sept.1 of 2013, today!!
I think that this book could stand alone, but if you don’t read the first book you are missing out on a good read! I would encourage you highly to read the first book! I believe that the first book is just slightly better than the second. The first book starts us out with all the characters and their emotional backgrounds. When we leave Millie we are hoping that she goes onto to lead a better life, but trouble seems to follow her. Her past haunts her. Millie is about as likely to be free of her past as the mountains are to move, but remember faith can move mountains!!
The second book is about Millie’s marriage to Bump and their establishment of a horse and cattle ranch in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Millie has many secrets that she is keeping. Bump is no dummy, he knows there are things she is not telling him. The story unravels and the truths come out, but things are not as Bump suspected. Whatever happened to Millie’s first love, River? He arrives again in this book and there is closure. There is references to the Bible and prayer in the book, but it is in no way overbearing at all. I think that it adds to the book and makes the characters more realistic. The ending is a happy one. Both of these books are great, what are you doing? You could be at the library picking the first one up now!! I give her second book a strong 4.5 out of 5 stars.
P.S. If you read these books and enjoy them Jeanette Wall’s books are of the same genre. She is a very accomplished writer also. The first two I have read and they are 5 star books. I have not read her latest novel The Silver Star. It is on my to read list.
